Amazing Wedding Weekend in Spain
Caitlin and Mark traveled from the USA to Spain with their closest friends and family to celebrate their destination wedding at Gran Villa Rosa near Barcelona. They wanted their wedding to feel like more than just one day — a full weekend of connection, laughter, and unforgettable moments that feel relaxed and joyful.
The evening before the wedding, they hosted a relaxed rehearsal dinner in the villa’s courtyard. Long tables, warm lights, heartfelt toasts, and happy tears set the tone for what was to come. These moments are some of my favorites to photograph — when everyone is already together, relaxed, and truly present.
On the wedding day, Caitlin got ready in one of Gran Villa Rosa’s beautiful, sunlit rooms, surrounded by her closest friends. The ceremony took place in the gardens, surrounded by greenery and flowers, with an intimate group of their nearest and dearest. Everything felt relaxed, personal, and full of emotion.
Having photographed weddings at Gran Villa Rosa, I’ve come to love how naturally the day flows here. There are so many different spaces to photograph, but you never feel like you’re constantly moving from one place to another. The villa creates this wonderful sense of togetherness, which is especially lovely for destination weddings when your guests are all staying in the same place.
The Best Photo Spots at Gran Villa Rosa
- Getting Ready: The villa’s spacious, bright rooms give you elegant yet relaxed images. My favorite room is, of course, the Sultan’s Suite that normally belongs to the bride on the wedding morning. I love photographing this part of the day without rushing it — the champagne, the final touches, friends helping with the dress, and those quiet moments when the excitement starts to sink in. The beautiful light in the villa does a lot of the work, so there’s no need to overcomplicate things.
- Candid Moments: The small tables, cava toasts, and sincere laughter at the backyard terrace — I love capturing those little unposed stories and candid moments at the backyard of the villa.
- First Look: If you’re planning a first look, I would consider doing it on the terrace. It’s a beautiful, private spot where you can take a moment together before the celebrations really begin. I always encourage couples to think of the first look as more than just a photograph. It’s a chance to slow down, take a breath, and actually enjoy seeing each other for the first time that day. I’ll be there to guide you if you need it, but otherwise, I’ll give you space to simply be together.
- Golden Hour: This is one of my favourite times to take couples away for a few portraits. We don’t need a long photoshoot — 15–20 minutes is enough to create beautiful images while still allowing you to get back to your guests and enjoy the party.

It allows your story to feel much more complete — from the first hugs when everyone arrives to the last dance on the wedding night. Gran Villa Rosa is one of those venues where the setting naturally becomes part of the experience. The architecture, the gardens, beautiful light, and the possibility of having everyone stay together under one roof make it particularly special for a destination wedding in Spain. What I love most, though, is the feeling of being there. When everyone stays at the same villa, the wedding becomes more than just one day. You have breakfasts together, long lunches, cava by the pool, late-night conversations, and all those spontaneous moments that happen when your favourite people are together in one place.
