Planning a destination wedding in Spain is exciting — but it can also bring questions, especially when it comes to photography. Couples often wonder how to make the most of their wedding photographer, from engagement shoots to capturing the full wedding weekend.
I’ve put together a list of the most common questions I receive from couples who are planning destination weddings in Barcelona. Whether you’re curious about timelines, locations, or how to coordinate with other vendors, this guide will help you feel confident and prepared.
Do we need a photographer for the entire wedding weekend?
It might not be absolutely essential, but it's certainly worth considering! A destination wedding in Spain is about so much more than one single day — it’s the entire experience for you and for all the dearest and nearest you invite to join your celebration. Capturing events beyond the wedding day allows your album to unfold like a complete chapter of your life, full of anticipation, connection, and emotion. It also gives you time to slow down, enjoy each moment without rush, and preserve the unexpected memories — the ones that often become the most meaningful years later.

Can we schedule an engagement session in Spain before the wedding?
Absolutely! When you book me for your entire wedding day, you receive a complimentary engagement shoot. These sessions are a fantastic way for us to:
- Get comfortable in front of the camera before the big day.
- Explore the city or venue and create romantic, relaxed photos.
- Use the images for your wedding website, invitations, or save-the-date cards.
- Get to know each other and build a genuine connection before your big day arrives.
Pro tip: Combine your makeup trial with the engagement shoot for a flawless, camera-ready look. Curious to learn more? Send me a message and I’ll be in touch soon.
How do you choose the best locations for photos?
Spain brims with enchanting old streets, golden beaches, and elegant villas. I will personally curate a collection of breathtaking spots just for you, thoughtfully matched to:
- Your personal style and vision.
- Lighting conditions for natural, flattering photos.
- Ease of access for you and your guests.
Before your wedding, I make it a priority to explore the venue in person, discovering the most beautiful light and unique backdrops for your portraits and group shots. This preparation lets me capture your day without missing a moment. If you would like, we can even arrange a pre-wedding visit together and create some romantic engagement-style photos right on site.
How much time should we allocate for photography?
It always depends on your timeline, but generally I’d say:
- Preparation & getting ready of both the groom and bride takes 1–2 hours.
- First look & guests gathering takes 1 hour.
- The ceremony takes 30–60 minutes.
- Couple portraits take up to 30 minutes.
- Family & wedding party photos 30–60 minutes.
- Reception & candid moments: full coverage as guests mingle and celebrate.
If you’ve booked full-weekend coverage, we can adjust the timing of the portrait session between events to make the day relaxed and enjoyable.
What if the weather doesn’t cooperate?
Great question — and a very important one! Before the wedding, I always explore alternative indoor or covered locations at your venue. On the day itself, I work closely with you (and your planner, if you have one) to adjust the timeline or portrait locations as needed. If there’s light rain, we can still go outside using umbrellas or sheltered spots; if the weather is heavier, we’ll focus on elegant indoor portraits and candid moments.
Spain’s climate is usually reliable, but I always have a plan B for outdoor shoots:
- Alternate indoor locations (historic halls, villas, or hotels).
- Adjust schedules for the best natural light.
- Embrace moody or rainy-day photography — it can be incredibly cinematic.
Rain, clouds, or wind don’t stop beautiful photography — in fact, they often create a very romantic and atmospheric mood.
Do we need a second photographer?
In most cases, no, a second photographer isn’t necessary, especially for weddings with up to 80–100 guests and a well-structured timeline. With thoughtful planning, one experienced photographer can beautifully capture the full story of your day: the emotions, the atmosphere, the key moments, and the details that matter most.
A second photographer can be helpful for larger weddings, very tight schedules, or situations where both partners are getting ready in completely different locations simultaneously.
If I ever feel that a second photographer would genuinely add value to your experience and final gallery, I’ll always discuss it with you openly. The goal is simple: to create a beautiful, calm, and authentic visual story of your wedding day.
Destination weddings in Spain are magical, but planning them can raise many questions. With the right photographer — someone who understands the local venues, lighting, and culture — you can relax and enjoy every moment, knowing your wedding weekend is being captured beautifully.
